Each person sees, feels and understands things differently which is why we have different opinions on any given topic. In today’s lesson you’ll learn vocabulary to express your opinion and ask someone for their opinion.

Expressing your opinion

In my opinion, the following phrases will help you express your personal point of view effectively.

  • In my opinion…
  • As far as I’m concerned…
  • As far as I understand…
  • I believe that…
  • I think that…
  • I’m of the opinion that…
  • The way I see it…

When you are expressing a general opinion that many people have, you can use the following phrases.

  • It is considered…
  • It is believed…
  • It is generally accepted that…
  • It is thought that…

Asking for an opinion

It’s a good idea to ask the other person about their opinion during a conversation. Here are a few ways to ask.

  • What do you think about…?
  • What’s your opinion on…?
  • What are your views on…?
  • Do you have an opinion on…?
  • Do you believe that…?
